Privacy policy
The short version. Grounds Up does not collect any data about you. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Your games stay on your phone, and in your own iCloud when iCloud is on. Once a day the game asks the App Store whether a newer version exists. You pay once, on the App Store, and there is nothing else to buy.
Who we are
Grounds Up is a game for iPhone made by Daanish Kaul. In this policy, "we" means Daanish Kaul. You can write to us at groundsupsupport@gmail.com.
What data we collect
None. We do not collect, receive, sell or share any personal information about you through the game. The game does not send data about you or about your play to us or to anyone else.
What the game keeps on your phone
To let you play again later, the game keeps a few things on your phone. They stay there. We never receive them.
- Your saved games. The game saves by itself after your moves and when you leave the app. A save holds everything in that game: your company, your cafés and other businesses, your money, your choices and the news of that game.
- What you type into the game. The names of your company, your founder, your landmarks, your hotels, your funds and your labs are part of your saved game.
- Your settings and small notes. For example whether tips are shown, which tips you have already seen, which layers of the map are on and where the map was last looking.
- A short log of problems. If a week cannot be played, the game writes the time and an error message to a small log on your phone. It keeps the last five entries. Nobody receives this log.
The game keeps these in the storage of its own web view on your phone (local storage and a small database). In the iPhone app it also keeps the three newest saves as files in the app's own folder, so your game can come back if the phone clears the web view's storage. All of this lives in the app's private space on your phone.
It stays until you delete the app. Deleting the app deletes your games, your settings and the log from your phone.
Your phone's backup. If backups are turned on (iCloud Backup, or a backup to a computer), your phone may include the game's files in its backup. Your phone makes and stores that backup. Apple's terms and privacy policy cover it, and we cannot see it.
Your iCloud. When iCloud is on for the game on your iPhone, the game also keeps a copy of your saved games in your own iCloud Drive space for the game. Only you can see that copy, through your Apple account. We cannot see it. It lets your games come to your other iPhones. When you delete a game in the game, the copy goes too. If iCloud is off, your games stay on your phone only.
We have no server and no database for the game.
What the game does not collect
The game does not ask for your name, email address, phone number or address. It does not ask for permission to use your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone. It does not read your advertising ID or any other ID that names your phone. It does not send any record of how you play anywhere.
Accounts
There are no accounts. You do not sign up, sign in or give us an email address to play.
Analytics, ads and tracking
The game has no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. It contains no tools from other companies that collect data. It does not use cookies.
The internet
The game, its pictures and its text are inside the app, and the game works the same in airplane mode. The game connects to the internet for one thing: once a day it asks the App Store whether a newer version exists. It sends Apple only the game's app ID and the country of your App Store. It sends no name, no ID of your phone and nothing about your play. If the answer is a newer version, the game shows a note with a button that opens the App Store. It does not connect to any server of ours or of any other company, and it downloads nothing else. Saving to iCloud is done by your iPhone and Apple, not by us.
At some happy moments the game may ask your iPhone to show Apple's own box that asks you to rate the game on the App Store. Apple decides if the box shows and how often. We see nothing from it except what Apple shows in the App Store.
If you tap a button in the game that opens an address, such as Email support or the website, your phone opens Mail or your browser. That is your phone leaving the game. It is not the game connecting.
Paying for the game
Grounds Up is a paid app. You pay once, on the App Store, when you get it. After that there is nothing else to buy: the game has no in-app purchases, no subscription, no add-ons and no ads. Apple handles the payment from start to end. We never see or receive your card, your payment details, your name or your Apple ID. The game does not check whether you paid, and it does not save anything about your payment.
Apple may give us summary sales reports, for example how many copies were sold in a country. These reports do not say who bought.
Reports from Apple
If you choose to share app analytics or crash reports with developers in your iPhone settings, Apple may pass reports about the game to us. Apple decides what these reports contain. We use them only to find and fix problems in the game.
When you write to us
If you write to us, for example from Support, we receive your email address and what you write. We use them only to answer you and to fix the problem you wrote about. We do not add you to a list, and we do not sell or share your email address or your message. We keep a message only as long as we need it to help you.
The Email support button in the game opens Mail with a message to us. The subject line holds the name of the game, its version and its build number, so that we can help you. Nothing else is filled in, and nothing is sent until you press Send in Mail. Please do not send passwords or payment details. We never need them.
Children
Grounds Up collects no personal information from anyone, including children. It has no accounts, no ads, no chat and no way to meet other players. If you are a parent or guardian and you have a question, write to us at groundsupsupport@gmail.com.
Your choices and your rights
Because the game keeps your data only on your phone and in your own iCloud, you are in control of it. To remove your games, settings and log from your phone, delete the app. To remove the copy in your iCloud, delete the game in the game, or use iPhone Settings, your Apple account, iCloud, and choose to manage the storage of the game. To remove them from your phone's backups, use your phone's backup settings.
People in some places, for example in the European Union, the United Kingdom and California, have rights over data that a company holds about them: to see it, correct it, delete it, move it or object to its use. We hold no data about you from the game, so there is nothing to apply these rights to, except an email you sent us. If you want us to delete an email you sent, write to us.
Security
Your games are kept in the app's private space on your phone. The security of your phone protects them, for example your passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, and the encryption that iOS provides. The game sends them to no server of ours. The copy in your iCloud travels through Apple's iCloud, which is protected by Apple.
This website
These pages are plain pages. They use no cookies, no scripts, no analytics and nothing from other websites. The company that hosts the pages may keep standard technical logs of visits, as web hosts do. Those logs belong to the host, and the host's own privacy policy covers them. We add no analytics of our own and we do not use those logs.
Links to other sites
These pages link to a few pages of other companies, such as Apple's license agreement. When you open one, you leave this site, and that company's policies apply.
Changes to this policy
We may change this policy. When we do, we publish the new version at the same address and change the effective date at the top. If we ever change the game so that it collects data, we will say so here and in the game's update notes before it happens.
